Mr. Bhoj Raj Pokharel, Chief Election Commissioner
Mr. Bhoj Raj Pokharel was appointed as the Chief of the Election Commission of Nepal on October 30, 2006. He served as the Secretary at the Ministry of Health, from January 1998 to April 1999 under the erstwhile His Majesty's Government.
Previously, he had also worked as the Secretary at Ministry of Supply (April 1997), Ministry of Information and Communication (March 1995- April 1997) and Ministry of Home Affairs (October 1992-March 1995). He was also associated with Cabinet Secretariat, Ministry of Works and Transport, Ministry of Local Development as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary. Mr. Pokharel was stationed at different parts of Nepal in the past, and was also associated with the National Referendum Commission during 1979 to 1980, during the historic Referendum held in Nepal.
Mr. Pokharel holds a Masters Degree in Economics from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He has received several national as well as international awards. Prior to his appointment as the Chief Election Commissioner he was also affiliated with a number of national and international organisations including the ADB, DFID, DANIDA, WHO, GTZ, UNDP, IHSD, OPTIONS, SWC, UNAIDS, UNFPA.
